Dear Teacher,

Hi! It’s me, your little friend.

I wanted to tell you how I feel when I see you every day, but sometimes it’s hard to find the right words because I’m just a child. But this Teacher’s Day, I’m going to give it a shot—to let you know just how much you mean to me!

When I come to school in the morning, I can hear your happy voice saying, “Good morning!” and it makes me feel all warm inside, like a cozy blanket. When you smile at me—it’s like sunshine, making me feel like everything is going to be okay. Even though I’m a little scared and don’t want to leave my mommy and daddy, your warm welcome helps me forget all about it. I get excited for my day at school because I know you’ll be there.

The best part of my day is when I sit beside you during circle time. I like it when you play with us! I always remember to take home the memory of those high-fives of appreciation and share it all with mommy and daddy. Whenever we play with blocks or do puzzles together, it feels super fun. You always know how to help me when I’m stuck, but you let me try on my own first, so I can feel like I can do anything!

The world feels so big and confusing to me, and I’m always wondering why things are the way they are. Why does it rain? Why do fish live in water? How can I become a superhero? I ask so many questions every day, but you always have the answers—and you never get upset. It’s like you have a special power that makes things easy to understand. To me you’re the smartest of all.

When you read stories to us, it’s like the characters come to life in my mind. You make the lion sound just scary enough and the birds sound so sweet. You make me fall in love with the characters so much that I pretend that I’m one of them, when I go home. You make story time the best time of the day.

You help me write the alphabet when I don’t remember how the letter looks like, you soothe me when I’ve tripped and fallen, it’s like you always know what I need, even before I know it myself. You always make sure that everyone feels special and that nobody is left out. That’s my favourite thing about you. When I grow up, I want to be just like you. I want to be kind, smart, and know all the things you know. I want to help people and make them feel as happy as you make me feel every day.

Thank you for everything you do for me. For teaching me, for playing with me, for making me feel safe and happy. I feel lucky to have you as my teacher, and I’m going to remember all the things you’ve taught me, even when I’m big.

With lots of love,
Your Little Friend
