Who is a father? Someone who goes to work. Someone who is hardly at home. Someone who makes all the decisions. Someone who makes money. Someone who does all the hard work. He was expected to be strong and dependable.

But over the last few years, fatherhood has evolved beyond the role of a breadwinner. Today, fathers are more involved than ever, and this shift is not a forced one. He wants to be a part of the bedtime routine; he wants to feed and bathe his child. Learn how to tie his daughter’s hair and select outfits for his son.

Modern fathers are also bringing their A game when it comes to discussing emotions and creating a safe space for their child. They are learning, unlearning, and relearning every day just to build a connection that is deeper and more meaningful. Fathers today are breaking traditional ideas and stereotypes and are blurring the lines between the roles of a mother and father.

The catalysts for this shift are many, including more dual-income households, a change in gender role definition, more awareness of child development, and simply the evolution of society. The concept of paternity leaves and many corporations supporting this idea has also been a strong factor that has enabled fathers to be available for their kids from the start. Whatever the reason may be, the new generation of kids is definitely benefiting from this change. Research shows that involved fathers contribute positively to a child’s emotional well-being, confidence, social development, and sense of security.

The modern dad is someone who chooses to be present, both physically and emotionally, not just for the big moments but for the everyday.

Because being a dad is more than just a role, it’s a relationship.
