Even setbacks in life, in their own way, contribute to the growth process, and enrich our experiences. Embrace the lessons taught, for they are pathways to finding a stronger and braver you.

Living in the Moment with Children

Let’s not overlook the joy of present small moments in our desire to focus on future dreams and ambitions. Enjoy the whole journey celebrating all milestones we find on the way. The history of our lives is written mainly by how we live every moment. Do not dwell on the past. It is over and cannot be recalled or replayed, except in dreams. The future lies in blurred shadows and is uncertain. Predictions about the future are possible, but not certain. But what we have in our hands at the moment, are the joys of today. Let’s use them to unlock the now and fill each moment with a tiny bit of sweetness and joy. Let us try not to forget that these present moments also pave the way for whatever we can achieve in the future.

Everybody knows that one of the most profound sources of joy is the time spent with our children. A child learns from adults: so, teach her to stop and savour everyday moments. through the joy they radiate, they are a secret weapon to banish one’s anxiety and stress.

Finding Happiness in the Simplest Moments

Children have an innate ability to find happiness and contentment in the simplest of things. Let’s join them in their world of wonder by slowing down and taking time to smell the fragrance of the flowers or the rain-sodden grass. Then we too can experience pure, unadulterated peace that comes from ordinary experiences. Even a thousand luxuries can’t replace a smile from a loved one, a sunlit morning or a hug from a friend.

When with children, one of the chief necessities is to be present in the magic of the moment. This means that we should keep away from common distractions like mobile phones or television and give undivided attention to the present. This way, we not only enjoy the moment, but open ourselves to a deeper connection with our little ones.

Finding Your Moments with Children Amidst Nature

One important thing we can share with our children, is to discover moments of joy in nature and marvel at her plentitude.  Watch the sky colour up in muted hues as the sun rises. Listen to the birds on the dew-drenched trees chirping in the morning. See the moon dancing in and out of the dark clouds in a starlit sky. Sniff the delicate fragrance of the just-watered garden. Go barefoot on a sandy beach feeling the squelching sand between your feet. Lie on a mat on the lawn watching the changing patterns of the night sky. Watch a magnificent storm accompanied by thunder and lightning, from the safe shelter of your bedroom window. Learn to appreciate the changing seasons with a child. Watch the spring enfold with the blossoming of flowers. See the summer give colour to the world with a myriad of flowers. Let the rainy season wash away the shadows and give birth to a brand-new world.  Watch winter in all its misty beauty.

From Just a Moment to Beautiful Memories

The moments we share with our children become etched in their memories forever and get reinforced in their minds and ours: these cherished memories are everlasting. So, make sure to do a lot of fun things with the little ones, both at home and school. Dance in abandon to catchy tunes till your feet ache, and your heart sings with joy. Let them splash in mud puddles, not bothering about stained garments and shoes. Build sandcastles and card houses. Allow them to lick the cake batter from a mixing bowl. Let them dip their fingers into pots of paint and colour a picture. Join them in playing dress up and act out roles from their favourite stories.

Make a flower or a leaf collage. Skip away your worries. Make play dough shapes. Tell stories or read books cuddled under a blanket. Chase butterflies and squirrels. At the end of the day, a child’s feet would be mud-stained and her hair all over her face; yet her eyes would be sparkling with happiness.

Moments with Friends and Family

Another way to find joy is connecting with others. Teach children to build strong relationships with friends, family, and the community. Take time out for arranging a play date; put together a dance party for adults and kids and take them on picnics and field trips. Teach them to love and enjoy time with elders. Try hard to connect with everybody, whether through a simple conversation or shared activities which can help everyone to feel more supported and inter-linked.

Opportunity to Impart Life Lessons

Thus, the joys we share with our little ones will be etched forever in everybody’s minds and keep reminding us that life is made up of daily moments of happiness. In this way, we teach children valuable life lessons, whether its about overcoming challenges through perseverance and resilience; or showing kindness and sympathy to all, both people and animals. It is all about choosing to focus on the positive side of life instead of the negative. After all, happiness is a choice which we hold in our hands. These small experiences shape our children’s characters and prepare them for the future. At the same time, they also serve as reminders to us adults about the importance of values in our own lives.
